Do you ever feel like the holidays become a tangled mess of to-dos, busyness, trying to please people and meet expectations?
If things aren’t going well, the holidays seem to be there to amplify it.
Then, January rolls around with the promise of a new start.
It doesn’t have to be this way any time of the year!
You can make this month what YOU want.
No matter how bad things are right now.
Yes, even if your marriage is rocky.
Or, money is super tight.
Or, you *know* people will be really disappointed if you change anything.
There is a way to make it easier and more peaceful.
It’s starts with setting your intention.
This means knowing what you really want, how you want to feel, and how you want to show up.
Think of your intention like a steering wheel being able to point you in the direction you want to go. The focused attention you give your intention is like the gas pedal.
Let’s play with this together.
Grab a pen and a piece of paper and we’ll do a simple intention setting practice.
Think of something you’re planning on doing. This could be going out to dinner, buying something, or even the whole day ahead. Write it down.
Ask yourself, “What’s my intention behind this (action, day)?” Write what comes to you.
Check-in to how it feels. Do you want to keep this intention as is? Or re-write it? It might take several rewrites, but find an intention that feels good to you.
Stay focused on your intention. Keep your written intention in your pocket when you can grab and look at it any time. If things go sideways (which we know they might), read your intention. Say it out loud.
But, here’s the real kicker that’s easy to forget during the holidays:
You only have control over your intention.
You DON’T HAVE CONTROL over how OTHER PEOPLE feel, how they react to you, what they do, or what they choose.
If that creeps in, go back to investigating your intention.
That’s where magic happens.
And you find ease, peace and joy within you.
