Stretch yourself + grow your biz (without working harder)

Meet Meghan. 

Meghan is an entrepreneur who knows how to work hard. 

She’s also my client and right now Meghan wants CHANGE: change in her business, change in her mind, change in her body. 

She wants to stretch herself, but she’s tired of the old way of long-hours and exhaustion. 

Recently she felt stuck, “I feel like I’m trying so hard, but nothing is working!” she said.

So, I asked, “How are your mindset practices, like your affirmations, going?” 

(LOUD SIGH) “I was doing them, but I quit. I just get pulled away with other stuff,” she said. 

“Got it. Okay, how about your meditation practice?” I asked.

“What meditation practice?” she said with a chuckle. “Ugh, Sarah, I was doing all of it for a while and it felt so good and then it just dropped off.” 

Meghan did what a lot of us do.

She ATTACKED the practices like they were a JOB, she got burnt out, dropped them, and went back to the same habitual thoughts and behaviors.

So, of course, she feels stuck.  

Here’s the thing: Stretching yourself, growing your business, and having things happen is just like stretching your muscles. 

Let me explain. 

If you want to experience the feeling of “release” in a muscle and lengthen the tissue you will get results by doing these three things: 

  1. HOLD the stretch. If you push and try to force a muscle to lengthen, you’ll likely be saying “ouch!” soon afterward.

  1. Make a commitment to stretch. 

  1. Be consistent in stretching everyday, ideally a couple times a day. It isn’t a one and done. It’s gently allowing a little bit of length at a time that adds up. 

If you want to experience the feeling of "release” in your mind, stretch yourself, and grow your business you will get results by doing the same practices. 

Let’s go over them again: 

  1. HOLD the stretch. Your “stretch” might be daily meditation, visualization or affirmations. "Hold" one of these practices for a certain amount of time. This means 5-20 minutes a day for, let's say, 21 days. Tell yourself it’s a “stretch” and you’re just staying there, holding the stretch. 

  1. Make a commitment to yourself to “stretch.” Creating new practices, even if they feel amazing, can be easy to forget. You’re making a PROMISE to yourself here, so use tricks to remind yourself, like putting it on your calendar or using sticky notes.   

  1. Be consistent in “stretching” everyday, ideally a couple times a day. Like I said, it isn’t a one and done. Just like a muscle, this is about gently releasing and allowing yourself to grow a little bit and over time that ADDS UP. 


Holding the stretch, being committed and consistent WILL get you results. You may see results within a week, or it may take longer, but stay with the practice.
